Ideation Glass Style Explore

PROGRAM

To shape the future of core Yankee Candle assortment by creating a new everyday glass candle style. The goal is to bring the new Yankee Candle strategy to life, feminine, casually sophisticated, fresh and stylish. We were given 2 – 3 hours sessions for a total of 6 hours for this vessel explore below.

 

IDEATION OBJECTIVE

Everyday glass shape must work within the current assortment of glass, apothecary and tumbler forms. Must be strongly differentiated, but complimentary to the current assortment. Should be able to be reproduced in a range of sizes. Glass styles and lid designs to be explored.

 

FIRST ROUND ROUGH CONCEPTS
For the first round, glass shapes and forms were simply explored.
 
TOP ROW: A new take on the apothecary form by taking the shape of the neck and repeating it for the top and bottom which gives a sense of the wax floating in glass vessel.
 

MIDDLE ROW: Rounded feminine forms were designed with reuse in mind as a home accent vase design. The forms take inspiration from lighting fixtures I had just seen at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in NYC.

 

BOTTOM ROW: Rounded bowl shaped forms were designed with reuse in mind as a home accent bowl container.

SECOND ROUND REFINED CONCEPT A
A quick sketch turned into a somewhat complex shape when rendered. A double walled geometric shape is designed with at square top shape with 4 sides that moves to a 6 sided base. This multi-faced glass vessel resembles a cut diamond and brings elegance and casual sophistication to the form. The lid is designed to become a beverage coaster once the candle has been used completely.
SECOND ROUND REFINED CONCEPT B
A subtly round vertical vase shape was designed with a double wall construction to have the wax appear to be floating, a design concept from the earlier round. For the various pour sizes, each have a slightly different shape. This is specifically designed for tablescaping, having various heights and widths of candle forms to work with to create a beautiful visual display. The lid is embossed with branding in a brushed stainless finish and designed with the reuse quality of a beverage coaster or jewelry tray. Inside the lid a surprise message, one of six different inspirational words which are designed to be random from candle to candle and bring an emotional element to the product.
SECOND ROUND REFINED CONCEPT C
Taking Concept B to a more premium level, these vessels have an on trend metallic silver asymmetrical dipped bottom. The fragrance specific label is applied to the lid for a more décor approach and framed YC branding is embossed in the front of the glass to subtly have branding presence on shelf, facing consumer.

 

SECOND ROUND REFINED CONCEPT D
Taking a more home décor approach the final iteration of this design removed all branding from the side of the glass, leaving the face of the candle clean and placing more emphasis on the form shape and metallic finish.
